While He is away, She will play with food pairings

One of my favorite dinners, while He is traveling, includes Tim Creehan’s Frozen Crab Cakes from Destin Ice Market on 30A. They bake up crispy and delicious in the oven in 20 minutes – just enough time to shower off the sand and pour a glass of wine! I was curious to find a creative pairing for Crab Cakes. My training leads me to think something like a Rombauer Chardonnay or a Champagne (my all-time favorite go-to’s for many dishes), or if a weeknight on my own, in reality, a more affordable Cava. These crab cakes are definitely on the bready side yet deliver a Dijon, lemony, spicy punch. A New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, an Alsacian Pinot Blanc or an Albariño could also pair well. But how about a rosé from Provence which is staring me down in my wine cooler right now?

I’d say “yes” to the refreshing 2015 Aime Roquesante, about $12 at World Market. Like a Cotes de Provence dry rose should be, it's made predominantly with Grenache along with Cinsault and Syrah grapes. With its berry nose and hints of flowers and spices, it's an easy summer wine that's surprisingly flexible.

What do you say to crab cakes and rosé?
